The project consisted of constructing a new raw water reservoir and pump station at the Catawba River Water Treatment Plant for LCWSD and Union County. The project primarily consisted of a new earthen embankment to impound an approximately one-billion-gallon raw water reservoir for the plant. The project also included a new pumping station and transmission pipelines.
Our field construction materials testing services included subgrade evaluations, undercut monitoring, fill and backfill placement monitoring, concrete testing and controlled low strength material (CLSM) testing. We also provided concrete strength testing of cores from one of the columns. Prior to coring, we located steel reinforcement in the column using ground-penetrating radar (GPR).
Our laboratory services included testing materials for each earthen embankment zone for conformance with the project specifications. Tests included concrete and CLSM compressive strength testing, concrete shrinkage testing, grain size distribution, Atterberg limits, dispersion, and standard and modified proctor testing.
