Taking advantage of high points and bluffs to create viewing areas overlooking the Catawba River, Masons Bend Trail is a 1.9-mile natural surface trail that extends the Carolina Thread Trail along the banks of the Catawba River. The trail winds through a historic rock quarry and follows an old railbed, honoring the site’s unique history. In public-private partnership with the Town of Fort Mill, Catawba Lands Conservancy, and Crescent Communities, the trail traverses the adjacent Masons Bend residential community and five other properties, providing public access points and trail heads that connect to the Carolina Thread Trail in multiple locations. Also situated along the trail are pedestrian seating areas and a kayak/canoe launch. ESP provided master planning, landscape architecture, civil design, geotechnical, survey, and other services throughout all phases of project development.
