Positive Train Control Mobile Scanning

Resulting from a federal mandate to install systems that track train position and enable remote speed control, ESP supported the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District’s (NICTD) Positive Train Control (PTC) project by performing mobile lidar data collection for 76 miles of rail line throughout Lake Porter, LaPorte, and St. Joseph counties.

NICTD Positive Train Control Mobile Scanning

Using our mobile lidar vehicle equipped with hi-rail and a 360-degree spatial imaging system, our team acquired spatial data within the rail right-of-way at a collection speed of 15 to 20 mph, capturing fully synchronized, high-quality, geo-referenced point clouds and high-resolution imagery.

This vehicle-mounted system is specially designed to conduct as-built modeling, inventory, inspection, and asset management for roadways, bridges, railways, utilities, and other infrastructure.
